The club filed our paperwork
with AKC a month ago and we are awaiting word back after their
reviews. Given the fact that Maribeth at AKC told us names are
sometimes even changed at the FSS stage (AKC dept where breeds await
full recognition) we decided to vote on the name just ONCE in light
of the fact we are working off donations financially and doing
multiple mailings for the name (should AKC not accept the one we
choose first) could get costly/timely. Since all of us are busy or
we are not doing our job as breeders we here at the Club only have
time to vote once so IF AKC approves our breed they will likewise
let us know which of our many names they would NOT approve so then
we can vote on the group they could live with. That way we would
not take a chance on voting on a name only to have AKC shoot it
down. We have quite a few possibilities and AKC could let us know
which IF ANY they would not approve and that name will be left out
of the voting process. Originally we had planned on having the
name decided on by now BUT we switched gears and went to AKC first
as they do not care (per Maribeth) about the name at this point. I
saw no reason to ask those paying for this to pay TWICE for mailings
so we will do this ONCE after AKC reviews all the name
possibilities.

We are on hold until AKC
reviews our application and tells us which names they will
approve. The application has been filed. If AKC approves our
application then they will review the possible breed names and then
let us know which of the suggested breed names AKC could live with.
We will then only vote on THOSE names. To hold a vote prior to AKC
reviewing the name possibilities could mean we get to do this
exercise all over again for which no one has time for duplicated
work. Our original plan was to vote on the name and then go file
with AKC but we flipped that process around to speed the process on
up.

We had
originally planned out going with an outside registry but
officials at AKC and UKC suggested we set up our own stud books
in-house to make sure records are handed over to them in quick
fashion. Some of the outside registries can be reluctant and
slow about doing so per several very knowledgeable people
recently informed us. So, we are in the process of setting
this up now. We will take your name as a free member and
privately email you when the program is up and running.
Those folks who want to be a silent member until the heat cools
down from those opposing breed recognition need to simply let us
know that. Your name will be protected and only one person with
our registry even knows who the silent members are. The
President herself has not asked and says she has no reason to
know. She only keeps a count of them going.
